Diaundra's TL;DR - Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse
“What could I say to you that would be of value, except that perhaps you seek too much, that as a result of your seeking you cannot find.”
Have you ever had one of those moments where you’re like “🤯 whoever screen wrote this episode of my life really went crazy”…. No? Just me? Well anyways y’all, give my writers an Emmy for this one.
This past week I spent my birthday in the mountains at a home on a river, on an island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean (quick lil s/o to God 🤞🏽🤍). Quickly w/in the stay I found myself thinking, “I feel the need to speak less here. With the sounds of the river, it feels like someone is already speaking.” Given my intentions of the trip were “restoration, reflection, and presence,” I immediately knew this week was going to be special.
One of my favorite things to do before going on a trip is intentionally pick out the books I want to bring with me. But tbh I was so tired coming into this one, I just picked up a random book from the stack. ‘Siddhartha’ by Herman Hesse was the lucky winner. A book that I purchased just as unintentionally, knowing nothing of what it was about.
Fast forward to a rainy morning sitting outside by the river, I took the book out. As someone who hasn’t read a fiction novel since Twilight as a teen, I was like 🙄 when I read the back cover. But a smile quickly warmed me up as I opened to the first line of the first page and read, “By The River.”
Nobel-Prize winner Herman Hesse authored “Siddhartha” a truly beautiful story about a man’s journey to discovering self, life, all of it, none of it. All thanks to an encounter with a river.
This book was a hug of a read. It inspired me, challenged me, and held my hand during a week of focusing on my own discovery. The lessons I learned from this book were the best gifts I could have of asked for.
All to say, this is one of the best books I have ever read. No recap from me on this one, just encouragement to give it a read. (: Till next time.
With love,
Diaundra
Happy Late birthday Diaundra! Thank you so much for your book reviews :D
